Will the Clinical Outcome of Cemented Modular Neck Total Hip Prostheses be Comparable to Conventional Devices?

ثبت نشده
چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Modular neck total hip arthroplasty (THA) devices afford the surgeon increased intra-operative flexibility in terms of the degree of head version and offset, as well as allowing more controlled stem positioning. Strains on the outer cortical bone surface have been shown to be strongly dependent on the orientation of a THA. These strains can be a potential cause for mechanical failure of the femur, and can lead to degenerative bone remodeling. The aim of the present study was to compare results from finite element models of a femur implanted with two cemented THA designs –a modular-neck and a fixed-neck.

A modular cementless stem vs. cemented long-stem prostheses in revision surgery of the hip

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Modular cementless revision prostheses are being used with increasing frequency. In this paper, we review risk factors for the outcome of the Link MP stem and report implant survival compared to conventional cemented long-stem hip revision arthroplasties. PATIENTS AND METHODS We used data recorded in the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register. 812 consecutive revisions with ...

Displaced intra-capsular neck femur fractures in elderly: Austin Moore’s prosthesis or Cemented Modular Bipolar Prosthesis

Introduction: With various options available like unipolar, bipolar hemiarthroplasty or total hip arthroplasty, it would be wise to choose hemiarthroplasty as it is a procedure with a short operating time with lesser morbidity for elderly patients with displaced intra-capsular neck femur fractures .This study is aimed primarily at comparing the functional results obtained after a hemiarthroplas...

Total Hip Arthroplasty with Modular Stem for Dysplastic Hips in South Asian Population

Introduction: Optimum component positioning and orientation is required to optimize the functional result during total hip arthroplasty for dysplastic hips. Patients and methods: Sixty-two patients (66 hips) including 33 males and 29 females underwent total hip arthroplasty using modular stem prosthesis at an average age of 40.6 years (range 17 to 49 years). Nineteen hips were clas...

Medium-term Outcomes of Cemented Prostheses and Cementless Modular Prostheses in Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty

There is an increasing trend towards cementless modular femoral prostheses for revision hip replacement surgery, especially in patients with severe proximal femoral bone defects. However, for minor femoral bone defects, the benefit of cementless modular is not clear. We designed a retrospective cross-sectional study to compare outcomes of the two femoral implant designs. There were no significa...

Palacos compared to Palamed bone cement in total hip replacement: a randomized controlled trial

Background and purpose - Stability and survival of cemented total hip prostheses is dependent on a multitude of factors, including the type of cement that is used. Bone cements vary in viscosity, from low to medium and high. There have been few clinical RSA studies comparing the performance of low- and high-viscosity bone cements. We compared the migration behavior of the Stanmore hip stem ceme...
